What Are You Protecting?

September 13, 2026 • Note No. 02

Last week, I asked a question:

Am I living a full life?

I've continued sitting with that question, and this week another one surfaced:

What am I protecting?

When I hear the word protection, my mind immediately goes to d

What am I leaving behind for my children?

And what am I creating that might reach beyond them—to my children's children?

Before becoming a mother, I don't remember thinking about life this way.

There was a time when I could simply be carefree. I didn't spend nearly as much time thinking about the what ifs or the what coulds.

I was responsible for me.

Then I became a mother.

And suddenly, life wasn't only about the present anymore.

Motherhood somehow taught me to live in the past, present, and future all at once.

I think about what I've experienced and what I want to do differently.

I think about what my children need from me today.

And I think about the adults they're becoming and the foundation I'm creating for a future I may not always be able to see.

Their safety.

Their opportunities.

Their emotional well-being.

Their financial foundation.

Their memories.

Their understanding of love, family, money, and what it means to build a life.

Because one of the realizations of parenthood is that our choices rarely belong only to us anymore.

They ripple.

When I became a mother, I didn't imagine I would eventually be making so many of these decisions independently.

I thought there would always be two of us carrying the responsibility of raising and protecting our children.

Life unfolded differently.

And for those navigating life independently—whether through divorce, loss, circumstance, choice, or simply a season you never anticipated—there can be an additional weight to protection.

There are decisions that have to be made.

Questions that need answers.

Plans that cannot always wait for someone else to make them.

And sometimes you're simultaneously trying to build the safety you're responsible for providing while learning how to feel safe yourself.

I've had to make choices about my career, finances, home, relationships, healing, and future while asking:

What is best for all of us?

Have I always gotten every decision right?

Absolutely not.

But when I look back at the woman I have worked to become since having my children, I recognize something.

So many of my choices have been acts of protection.

Choosing to heal, grow and become more financially aware-

to simply be better than yesterday

Protection isn't always a policy, a savings account, or a locked door.

Sometimes protection looks like setting boundaries, taking care of your health and honoring your time, and so many things...

Sometimes it's healing something so your children don't have to inherit it.

And sometimes protection is simply deciding:

This matters enough for me to be intentional about it.

A SACRED REFLECTION

What is precious to you—and have the choices you're making reflected how precious it is?

Think beyond money.

What are you protecting?

Your peace?

Your health?

Your time?

Your children?

Your relationships?

Your home?

Your income?

And then gently ask:

Is there something precious to me that I've been assuming will simply take care of itself?

This isn't an invitation into fear.

It's an invitation into awareness.

Because we protect what we recognize as precious.

A SACRED WEALTH NOTE

Working as a financial professional has changed how I see financial preparation: protecting the people we love is an act of love. Life insurance isn't simply about death; it's about helping protect the lives of those who remain—the home, everyday needs, future plans, and choices we hope they'll still have available to them. A policy can never replace a person or remove grief, but thoughtful preparation can help prevent an emotional loss from becoming an immediate financial crisis. That's why I believe protection belongs in conversations about wealth—not from fear, but from stewardship, intention, and love. This September, during Life Insurance Awareness Month, I'm offering Annual Wealth + Protection Check-Ins to help you explore whether what you have in place still reflects the life, people, and legacy you're building.
